The validity of Vietnam visa

1. Tourist Visa: Valid for 1 month from the issuing date of your Vietnam visa (1 month single or 1 month multiple)

+ 1-month single visa: visa holders can enter Vietnam on or after the issuing date of the visa, stay here for 1 month, and leave before or on the expiry date of the Visa. If you go out of Vietnam, you can not use this Visa to re-enter Vietnam.
+ 1-month multiple visa: visa holders can enter Vietnam, leave for some other nations, and then re-enter Vietnam within 1 month (30 days) (from the issuing date till the expiry date of the visa).

How long to get Vietnam visa?

You may wonder how long it takes to get your Vietnam visa done? Normally, you have two choices to get your Vietnam visa: Option one – apply by yourself at the Embassy/Consulate; and Option two – apply online (for both visa on arrival and visa code). Accordingly the processing time differs between those. The latter always takes less time. Details as follows:

Option 1: Apply for Vietnam visa at Vietnam Embassy in your current area on your own

  1. Processing Time: The processing time for tourist visa application normally takes four (4) to ten (10) working days.
  2. Cost: The fee varies from Embassy to Embassy; For example, about $50US in Bangkok, and $85US in Washington.

Visa application forms are available at the Embassy/Consulate in your current area. You can get one by directly visiting the Embassy/Consulate and pick it up by yourself. Or, you may download it from the internet, fill it out and send by mail carrier with a stamped, self-addressed pre-paid return envelope to the Visa section – Vietnam Embassy/Consulate there. Chapter I: ENTRY INTO, AND EXIT FROM PHU QUOC ISLAND

Article 1.- Phu Quoc island (excluding areas exclusively planned for public security or defense purpose) shall be eligible for entry and exit preferences specified in Clause 1, Article 3 of the Prime Minister’s Decision No, 53/2001/QD-TTG of April 19, 2001, on policies toward border-gate economic zones.

Article2.- Foreigners and Vietnamese holding foreign passports (hereinafter referred collectively to as foreigners) who enter, exit from, and reside in Phu Quoc island, for a stay period not exceeding 15 days shall be exempt from visas; foreigners who enter an international border-gate of Vietnam and stay in its transit lounge before traveling to Phu Quoc island shall also be exempt from visas.

Five - Year - Visa Exemption for Vietnamese Overseas

In the visit to the US, President Nguyen Minh Triet informed overseas Vietnamese in the US, as well as all overseas Vietnamese in more than 90 countries in the world, that the Vietnamese State has decided to exempt visas for all overseas Vietnamese who meet some conditions. Related agencies in Vietnam are compiling documents to realize this decision since September 1, 2007.

Under the above decision, overseas Vietnamese must fulfill some formalities to be granted a visa exemption verification document, which is valid for many times of traveling and takes effect within five years, not only one time like in the past. Read more »

Get Vietnam Visa in the United States (US)

A VISA to Vietnam can be applied for by mail or in person at the Embassy of Vietnam in the United States (US) as early as six months prior to the date of travel. Like in most other nations, there are two ways to apply for Vietnam visa to be selected by residents of the US:

I/ Normal Vietnam entry visa (received before travelling)

The applicant must submit:

1. Original PASSPORT (which requires at least 01 month validity prior to the date of exit from Vietnam). In urgent cases, a loose-leaf-visa can be requested, then a copy of passport (photo and personal detail pages) may be submitted instead of the original passport.

2. Application form (PDF Form/Word Form). The form must be completed, signed and attached with 01 original photo (2x 2in). In case of a loose-leaf-visa request, 01 additional photo must be stapled to the form. Read more »
