Frequently Asked Questions

There are several frequently asked questions (FAQ) by foreigners who may need a visa to Vietnam, even online service or by themselves. Please see the following FAQs for reference:

Vietnam airports of visa on arrival?

Hanoi: Noi Bai Airport
Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon): Tan Son Nhat Airport
Da Nang: Danang Airport

What exact procedures do I have to follow at arrival airport?

Hand in the approval letter, your photos, and pay required visa stamping fee, then your passport will be stamped with a valid visa then you exit the airport.

Is validity of passport important?

Yes, very important since you cannot apply for a Vietnam visa if your passport is expired. However, in some cases, you still can plan yourself that by the date of passport is expired, your Vietnam visa (traveling period) is expired as well, thus you can go back after finishing holiday in Vietnam to extend your passport.

Does Vietnam visa start on entry or on date of approval?

The effective date will be on entry date (the date cited in the approval letter) or simply the date you arrive in Vietnam, because the approval date may be many days in advance prior to your date of arrival. From the entry date, you can delay your arrival but no longer than the duration of your whole stay approved. You are not normally allowed to enter Vietnam before the date of entry.

What will happen if I do not have a credit card? Is it ok if someone can pay for me on my behalf?

In case you do not own a credit card, you still can apply for Vietnam visa with your friends’ or relatives’ credit card. Alternatively, you can transfer money by Xoom or Western Union, which also save your bank transaction fee.

Do different passport holders have to pay different prices?

No. The fee is the same for all passport holders once you are in the list of countries which need visa to enter Vietnam.

Countries that cannot apply for Vietnam visa?

It’s regretful but we cannot do visa service for the citizens from countries listed below:

  1. Iran
  2. Iraq
  3. Nigeria
  4. Saudi Arabia
  5. Pakistan
  6. Jordan
  7. United Arab Emirates
  8. Lebanon
  9. Bangladesh
  10. Sri Lanka
  11. Malawi
  12. Palestine
  13. Tunisia

How about dual citizenship?
I am a dual citizen (Sweden/Australia) and I have just got married - I will be visiting Vietnam with my Australian passport as this is in my new name, however, since I have an older EU/Swedish passport in my pre-marriage name, does that mean I do not need to apply for a visa (Sweden exempt)? I will be travelling with a certified marriage certificate so this will verify the name change.

Vietnam does not accept dual citizenship, so if you travel by what passport, you will need a visa based on that passport. In this case, even you have a certificate of Swedish original but you are using an Australian passport to enter and later exit Vietnam, you will need a Vietnam visa for sure. You won’t need a visa (15-day exempt) if you use now Swedish passport.

Do I have to book a flight to get a Vietnam visa?

Normally NO, but you should have your flight later on the same date of entry. If you fly earlier than the date you are approved to enter Vietnam then your visa does not valid - please remember this.

Do Flight Crewmembers need visas to stay in Vietnam while they are waiting to operate a flight out of the country?

It depends. If you only wait some hours without exiting the airport, you don’t need. But if you go out to stay in a hotel or just walking around, you certainly need it.

Do I need a visa for a week?

The answer is definitely YES. Even if you just stay for one minute whenever you exit to the entrance of airport, you must have a valid visa.

Does Vietnam have transfer-Visa?

Actually there’s not any visa of that kind. If you do not exit the airport but staying inside during the transferring time, you do not need a visa. Yet, if, during this time, you want to exit and get around, you really need one.

What if I forgot to get a visa for Vietnam?

If you do not have it, you are not permitted to board the flight into Vietnam. In such an emergency case, please contact us immediately on our service support phone: +84 7833887 (pleased be noted that service cannot be done on Saturday, Sunday, Lunar Tet Holiday, and some other national holidays, see here for more info www.vietnam-beauty.com/vietnam-overview.html )

How many days can I get a Vietnam visa?

If you do this at the Vietnam Embassy in your country, it might be from 4 – 10 days. Yet, with us, it is 2 to 3 working days for normal case, and only 1 working day for urgent service.

How safe is Vietnam visa online?

It is safe, fast, convenient, cost-effective and time-saving. The key point is that you select the most suitable online payment method as the safest way.

Can I get passport-sized photos in Vietnam?

Yes. The service is available in the cities. If you forgot to bring some to do visa procedure at airport then you can take on spot at the Immigration.

Hello- I will be travelling overland from Cambodia into Vietnam. So I dont’ have an airport as a port of entry. Is this an issue?

  • By admin, March 9, 2009 @ 11:30 am

    Answer to Rahima,

If you applied visa code (travel by land), you do not need to fill the port of entry in your application form. You should fill the location of the Vietnam Embassy and Consulate which you want to pick up your visa code, in stead. Regards!

I’m having dual citizenship, vietnam and U.S. I have both passports are valid over 5 years. I’m planning to travel back to vietnam stay for over 1 year. Do i need to apply for vietnam visa?

  • By admin, December 2, 2009 @ 3:22 pm

    To Ha chung
If you are Vietnamese with Vietnamese passport and your passport is valid at least 6 months, you don’t need visa to come to Vietnam.
If you are Vietnamese overseas with different nationality shown in your passport (like Austrian, US…), you are offered visa exemption to enter Vietnam by the Vietnamese Government. Please kindly click here for detailed guidelines http://mienthithucvk.mofa.gov.vn/.
    Kindly regards,
