What is the penalty for overstaying my visa in Vietnam? I’m in Canada

Vietnam visas and immigration issues fall within the purview of the Vietnamese authorities. Financial penalties for overstaying the validity of your visa are determined on a case-by-case basis. But we do not recommend you overstay  your visa. In case your visa is about to expire and you wish to extend your stay, please contact the Vietnam Immigration Department or a travel agency to have your visa extended.

I’m from Canada. Please let me know what is difference between a single entry visa and a multiple entry visa?

As their names indicate, there is a big difference between these two types of visa which lies in number of entries into Vietnam.
  • With single entry visa: You are permitted to enter Vietnam ONCE during your visa validity. After you exit Vietnam, you visa will automatically become invalid. If you would like to re-enter you need to apply for multiple entry visa.
  • With multiple entry visa: You can enter and exit Vietnam many times as you want during your visa validity.

I’m in Canadian but I’m not citizen of this country. Can I obtain my Vietnam visa at Vietnam embassy in Ottawa, Canada or should I come back to my country to obtain it?

Please be kindly informed that in case a Vietnam visa is required for your trip, you can apply for the visa at Vietnam Embassy in Canada or in any country which is convenient for you. But before you go ahead, please be kindly informed that in case you are traveling to Vietnam by air, you have another option to obtain a visa for Vietnam – VISA ON ARRIVAL. This option has been much preferred by air travelers to Vietnam for its convenience, fast processing and simplicity as well.

At the moment, there are up to 2 ways to obtain a Vietnam visa for Canadian, namely:
  1. Getting a visa on arrival (highly recommended if you are traveling to Vietnam by air, as it is convenient and simple to apply. You only need to submit an online Vietnam visa application which requires no document, just little information), get visa approval letter via email and then get visa stamped upon arrival at Vietnam airport); OR
  2. Getting visa at Vietnam embassy in Canada or in any country which is convenient for you if you are not traveling to Vietnam by air.
