Do Malaysian Citizens Need a Visa to Vietnam?

Malaysian passport holders DO NOT need a visa for Vietnam for every stay of maximum 30 days. They only need a visa if they wish to stay in Vietnam for over 30 consecutive days.

To enter Vietnam, whether under visa exemption or not, their Malaysian citizens should have their Malaysia passport:

  • be valid for at least 6 months following arrival date in Vietnam;
  • have at least 2 blank pages.

  • Contact the nearest Vietnam embassy/consulate for required documents, visa procedure and visa fees. It can be the Vietnam embassy in Malaysia if you are there, or in the country of your residence in case you are outside Malaysia.

  • Follow the procedure guided to get the visa issued by the embassy/consulate of Vietnam.

2. Get Vietnam Visa Upon Arrival (Recommended)

Getting a visa on arrival to Vietnam is the best way to get a visa for Vietnam for Malaysian citizens and passport holders traveling to Vietnam by air. The easiest way to get a visa for Vietnam for visitors from Malaysia (including Malaysian citizens and passport holders) who are traveling to Vietnam by air is to get Visa On Arrival (VOA).

With VOA, you apply online via www.vietnam-visa.com by taking these steps:

Receive the visa approval letter by email.
Normally in 2 working days (for tourist visa) or 7 working days (for business visa), attached with Vietnamese application form (also as Entry and Exit Form).
