Do UK citizens need a visa to Vietnam?
From March 15, 2022, the Vietnam Government has reintroduced the Vietnam visa waiver program for citizens of 13 countries, including the UK. Accordingly, UK passport holders DON’T need a visa for Vietnam for up-to-15-days stays in the country.

- This Vietnam visa waiver program does not work for holders of British National Overseas passports.
- The requirement on the 30-day interval between the stays with visa waivers has been removed. It means that UK citizens can enter Vietnam visa-free for every trip of no more than 15 days.

How to Get Vietnam Visa for UK citizens
How to get a Vietnam visa for UK passport holders depends on the type of visa they get, i.e. tourist visa or business visa. You can find the detailed instructions below.
1. How to get a Vietnam tourist visa for UK citizens
Before Covid, UK citizens may have up to 02 ways to get a tourist visa, consisting of:
- Get a tourist visa at Vietnam embassy/consulate,
- Get a Vietnam visa online, including VISA ON ARRIVAL.
BUT, currently, the UK passport holders can get a 30 days single entry tourist visa ONLY which is issued in the form of a loose-leaf visa and must be obtained before departure for Vietnam (it is known as Vietnam e visa or electronic visa). The other types of tourist visas for Vietnam have not been resumed yet.

2. How to get Vietnam business visa for UK citizens
In order to apply for a business visa, you – as a UK/British citizen (passport holder), are REQUIRED to have a sponsor company in Vietnam.
There are 02 steps that you and your employer in Vietnam need to follow to get a business visa to Vietnam as follows:
- Step 1: Get a visa approval letter
- In this step, your sponsor company will need to prepare the following documents:
- Form NA2 which must be completed online here.
- Form NA16
- Certified business registration
- And then, your sponsor company will submit these documents to the Vietnam Immigration Department which will process the application within 5 – 7 working days of receipt of full valid documents.
- If the application is approved, your sponsor company will receive a business visa approval letter which allows you to get a business visa for Vietnam.
- In this step, your sponsor company will need to prepare the following documents:
- Step 2: Get business visa stamp
- In this step, you will get a business visa stamped on your passport at the Vietnam embassy/consulate in your country before your departure for Vietnam.

Q: After receiving the visa approval letter from you, do I need to inform the Vietnam embassy?
A: In case you get your visa stamped at the Vietnam airport, you are not required to inform your Vietnam embassy. After getting the letter, you only need to:
- print the documents,
- prepare entry/exit form and the stamping fee in cash,
- board the plane to Vietnam, and
- pick up the visa stamp upon arrival at Vietnam airport.

A: Yes, if you have a sponsor company in Vietnam (the company you will work for after entering Vietnam), as this type of visa is now available for business purpose only.
Q. I have a stopover in Vietnam. Do I need a Vietnam visa for my transit/flight connection there?
A. In most cases, you do not need a visa for transit in Vietnam if you do not cross the immigration/passport control counter to catch the connecting flight. To make sure, we highly recommend you check with your airlines for specific requirements at your transit airports.
If you cannot confirm, please consider applying for a visa to avoid any problems during your transit.
Please be informed that whether you need a visa for Vietnam or not does not depend on your residing country, but on your nationality.
