Vietnam-visa.com provides a fast, reliable, simple and secure service to assist you in legalizing your documents issued in foreign countries to be used in Vietnam.
Since September 11, 2026, Vietnam has been a member of the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention, which means many documents no longer need full consular legalization. Depending on where your document was issued (or where it will be used), we handle either the Apostille route or the traditional Consular Legalization route and tell you which one applies before you commit to anything.
The process of legalizing foreign documents for use in Vietnam varies from one document to another, from one country to another. The key to our service is ensuring your documents is presented to the right authorities and that ultimately your documents are accepted when presented to any interested parties in Vietnam.
We can also translate your documents into Vietnamese, with a notarized or certified translation where required.

Apostille or Legalization – Which One Do You Need?
The right process depends on three things, checked in this order:
- Is your document a public document? (birth/marriage certificates, diplomas, court judgments, police checks, notarized copies and translations, and similar official papers — not private contracts, invitation letters, CVs, or unnotarized personal documents.)
- Was it issued in a country that belongs to the Apostille Convention?
- Does that country currently have an active Convention relationship with Vietnam? (Germany, Austria, and Czechia are Convention members that formally objected to Vietnam’s accession, so Vietnam still requires full legalization for their documents.)
If all three are “yes,” your document qualifies for Apostille – one stop, lower cost, faster turnaround. If any one is “no,” it needs full Consular Legalization instead. Not sure which applies to your specific document? 👉 See our full Apostille guide for Vietnam for a complete explanation, or just send us your document and we’ll tell you.
